Tikarpada Wildlife sanctuary is juxtaposition with the Satkosia George where meandering River Mahanadi plunges into the Eastern Ghat. Located at distance of 200 kms from the temple city of Bhubaneshwar, nature unfolds some its most beautiful mysteries in form of Tikarpada. The sanctuary lying amidst the thick covers of forest has the gusty Mahandai crisscrossing the Eastern Ghat and the forming a 22 km long mighty George named Satkosia. Lying in the district of Angul, the sanctuary presents one of the most splendid views of landscapes nurtured by rivers.

Tikarpada sanctuary has many exquisite facets hidden for the onlookers. The sanctuary is acclaimed for the Gharial Crocodile breeding. The research and studies conducted in Tikarpada has been instrumental in regenerating life into the fading population of these extremely threatened species. The forests of Tikarpada are guarded by the fiercest beasts like Tigers and Leopards. The herds of giant Asiatic elephants can also be witnessed along with langurs, rhesus macaque, spotted deer, pangolin, and neelgai, sambhar, mouse deer, antelope and sloth bear. The avian like Hornbill, Racket Drongo and Serpent Eagle also flocks around the woods of this wonderful sanctuary.

The gharial sanctuary is home for many reptiles like turtles and terrapins. The sanctuary is also the dwelling for many venoms.
