Konark Beach

Caressing the magnificent Sun temple of Konarak the beach lies at just 3 kms from it. Also called Chandrabhaga or part of the moon this spectacular beach lists amongst one of the best beaches in the Orissa. Inexplicable view of the rising and setting sun can be captured from this beach. An aura of mystique tranquility is spread all across the beach and refreshes you with divine energies while taking a stroll around the sea shore.

The white surfs splashing the beach, the sylvan sands spread all around, the blue sea and the rolling waves attracts tourist from all over the world to witness its charismatic charms. The pond where Lord Krishna’s son Samba was cured from the curse of leprosy can be seen near the beach. The Konarak Sun Temple: The marvelous Sun Temple of Konarak, lies at a stone throw distance of 3 kms from the beach. The majestic temple now in its ruins was built in the glory of the Sun God and has been recognized today as a world heritage site by UNESCO today. The entire temple has been conceived as a chariot for the Sun God with twelve pairs of gigantic wheels. Every corner of the temple has been neatly carved with elegant sculptors and they represent today one of the greatest monuments of world.

Mayadevi Temple: This shrine lies on the southwest corner of the Sun Temple and is dedicated to the consort of Sun God, Goddess Mayadevi.

Nabgrah Temple: This temple lies in front of the main temple and is dedicated to the nine planets Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto.

Archeological Museum: The museum lies outside the premises of the temple and exhibits many sculptors and other items found during the excavation of the Sun Temple.

Ramachandi Temple: 10 kms from the Konarak beach, on the banks of the Kushabhadra river lies the shrine of Goddess Ramachandi, one of the many incarnations of Goddess of power Deity Durga.

Kapileshwar:- 10 kms drive from Konarak beach lies the Kapileshwar Temple. Lord Shiva is worshipped here in form of Kapileshwar. The shrine is popular amongst the tourists for its sand dunes and unspoilt serenity.

Konarak Music and dance festival: Konarak Music and Dance festival is an annual carnival organized in the month of December to promote tourism. The festival commemorates the glory of Indian dance and music. The open air amphitheatre inside the premises of the Konarak temple comes alive during the festival.

Best Time to Visit Konark

The beach is visited by tourists all through the year but the ideal time to plan your vacations for lazing out in Konarak beach is between October to March. The beach lies on the Puri Konarak Marine Drive and is located at distance of 33 kms from Puri which is the nearest rail head. Bhubaneshwar is 65 km from Konarak and is the nearest airport. Bhubaneshwar also provides an alternate option of reaching Konarak through rails. Puri Konarak Marine Drive connects it with the rest of the world through road.

The highest temperature varies between 23°C to 35°C in the months of Summer while its remains between 27°C- 16°C is winters.
